ABSORB
A solo exhibition of paintings by Bernard Trainor at The Front Space, Anacapa Architecture, in Santa Barbara.

In this new series, Trainor absorbs the pattern language of each site he spends time in. The paintings begin as a way of seeing — a distillation of place through color, texture, and gesture — free from the constraints of design.

The exhibition is on view from August 28 through October 15, 2026, at 1023 State St, Santa Barbara, California.

Embedded in the work is a reverence for the local eco-types, the shifting play of light and shadow, and the small essentials that create the genius loci of a place. Each canvas becomes a layered record of observation, a way of understanding the land before shaping it.

“It is here I live at the intersection of art and science — where landscape reveals an “evidence of being” that is deeply rooted. I am searching for an essential and authentic response to place.”
